Overview

The Pikey Trek is a comfortable trekking route among the other treks in Nepal, with Pikey Peak (4,065m) being one of the highest viewpoints in Solu (the lower region of the Everest area). The name “Pikey” is believed to be derived from the name of a Sherpa clan deity. This region is well known for its majestic sunrises, Himalayan views, Sherpa culture, and rich traditions.

The Pikey Trek is renowned for its spectacular sunrise and sunset views, offering breathtaking panoramas of the Himalayan range, including Mt. Everest, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Gauri Shankar, Lhotse Shar, Numbur, Khatang, Karyalung, Annapurna, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Shishapangma, Thamserku, and Mera Peak. The Pikey Peak Base Camp trek is one of the most popular trails in the Everest region and is considered one of the lower-altitude viewpoints to see Mt. Everest (8,848m).

This trek is especially famous for its magnificent Himalayan scenery, rhododendron forests, magnolia, wild orchids, and local festivals held in August, which include traditional cleansing rituals where thousands of devotees travel to sacred lakes from villages across Solukhumbu.

The trek is approximately 7–9 days long and usually starts from Phaplu. A major highlight of this trail is the opportunity to visit local monasteries, with Chewang Monastery being an important spiritual site. Along the route, trekkers can experience the diverse cultures, languages, and lifestyles of the Tamang, Magar, and Sherpa communities.

Dramatic mountain scenery, prayer walls (mani walls), Buddhist stupas, landscapes, Himalayan flora and fauna, ancient monasteries, and high-altitude vegetation are the main attractions of this trek. While trekking through Pikey Peak, visitors can enjoy sunrise views surrounded by Himalayan giants such as Kanchenjunga and Mt. Everest.
